<main> <article class="userContent"> <p><strong><strong>QUESTION:</strong></strong></p> <p>In Traverse, during a Network Discovery how are device names found?</p> <p><strong>SOLUTION:</strong></p> <p>During network discovery the device name is derived as follows, in this order:</p> <ol><li> <p>sysName if SNMP credentials are provided and device responds</p> </li> <li> <p>DNS name if resolvable</p> </li> <li> <p>ip_address where 'address' is the ip address e.g. ip_192.168.1.100</p> </li> </ol><p>The device name is determined by checking the DNS server local to the DGE extension where discovery is running. If discovery finds a device with IP address 192.168.10.22, it will try to resolve that address using the name servers configured on the DGE extension.</p> <p> </p> <p>Applies To:</p> <p>Traverse</p> </article> </main>
