Adding the -remote tag for KaUsrtsk.exe on Windows Agents - Connect IT Community | Kaseya

Question

Why is the Kaseya Agent icon not viewable when accessing a Windows Agent machine via RDP or Terminal Services?

Answer

By default, the Kaseya service runs as a system service. The system only has access to the root console, not to virtual consoles/RDP sessions. So the icon will only display on screen:0 (the console). There are however workarounds for this. See the following:

If you are accessing an agent machine via a terminal server or RDP, you will not see the icon by default. This is a common issue with remote sessions, as many software titles only display their tray icon on the console screen and not on RDP sessions.

Solution

Please check the following registry keys: -

32-bit operating systems

In the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Kaseya Agent Service Helper

Locate the Kaseya entry with KaUsrTsk.exe in the Data section. Edit this data value and add a space and the term -remote

64-bit operating systems

In the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Kaseya Agent Service Helper

Locate the Kaseya entry with KaUsrTsk.exe in the Data section. Edit this data value and add a space and the term -remote

Example on a 64-bit computer:

Note - Since K2 and higher allows multiple agents to be installed on a single computer, you might need to determine which agent you would like to display for a remote session. Multiple agents can be modified to all display in the remote sessions.

Log off the present user that has KaUsrTsk.exe running or restart the computer to make the registry settings take effect. From there, verify if the KaUsrTsk.exe process is running for your session and that the icon is now displayed when you connect.

APPLIES TO

All Versions of Kaseya

Kaseya Windows Agents

Related KB's

https://helpdesk.kaseya.com/entries/105660816-The-agent-icon-does-not-show-for-multiple-users-when-logged-into-a-windows-server-including-Terminal
