<main> <article class="userContent"> <h2 data-id="summary"><strong>SUMMARY</strong></h2> <p>Details on how to select specific VMs, servers, and/or clients for encryption.</p> <h2 data-id="issue"><strong>ISSUE</strong></h2> <p>Specific assets need to have backups encrypted.</p> <h2 data-id="resolution"><strong>RESOLUTION</strong></h2> <p><b>Important:</b> Before following the process below, encryption must be configured and enabled on the appliance. See <a rel="nofollow" href="/home/leaving?allowTrusted=1&target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.unitrends.com%2Fdocuments%2Frs-ueb-admin-guide%2FDefault.htm%23satori%2Fmanaging_appliances.htm%23To_configure_encryption">how to configure encryption</a> in the administrators guide for details.<br><br>Once enabled on the appliance, encryption may be enabled for specific assets being protected by the Unitrends appliance.</p> <h2 data-id="tasks"><strong>TASKS</strong></h2> <p></p> <ol><li>Open the appliance UI and log in by going to <a href="/home/leaving?allowTrusted=1&target=http%3A%2F%2F%3Cappliance">http://<appliance</a> IP>/ui/</li> <li>Select "Configure" on the left.</li> <li>Select "Protected Assets" at the top.</li> <li>Expand each host to display the protected assets within.<img alt="Configure - Protected Assets screen" src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6032361/uploads/migrated/41EKR73SZMI9/eid-ka81w0000004crb-feoid-00n40000003czok-refid-0em40000000nn7n." width="90%" class="embedImage-img importedEmbed-img"></img></li> <li>Select one or more asset by checking the box next to each asset name. Note: Only assets of similar type may be selected at once. For example, an Exchange server and a Hyper-V:VM may not both be selected at the same time.</li> <li>Select "Edit" at the top of the screen.</li> <li>The "Edit Assets" screen will be displayed: <img alt="Edit Assets - Enable Encryption screen" height="395" src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6032361/uploads/migrated/DT3M2OQKQ8RD/eid-ka81w0000004crb-feoid-00n40000003czok-refid-0em40000000nn7x." width="500" class="embedImage-img importedEmbed-img"></img></li> <li>Check the box next to "Encrypt Backups".</li> <li>Press "Save".</li> </ol> All future backups from this asset will now be encrypted.<br><br>To disable encryption, repeat the above process and simply uncheck the "Encrypt Backups" box.<h2 data-id="notes"><strong>NOTES</strong></h2> <p>The following encryption limitations apply: </p> <ul><li>Encryption slightly degrades performance for backups, backup copies, and recovery. Use encryption only if you really need to hide your data.</li> <li>Make sure to keep the passphrase secure. If you forget the passphrase, there is no way to recover it or recover any encrypted backups.</li> <li>Once you have enabled encryption for an asset, that asset’s subsequent backups are encrypted. Encryption takes place during backup jobs. When unencrypted backups run on an appliance before you configure encryption, those backups remain unencrypted.</li> <li>Small Form Factors (SFF) do not support encryption.</li> <li>The following backup types are not encrypted: <ul><li>Legacy MS Exchange Information Store backups</li> <li>CEP brick-level backups</li> <li>Any data stored on the appliance via Samba or NFS</li> </ul></li> </ul> </article> </main>
