<main> <article class="userContent"> <h2 data-id="summary"><strong>SUMMARY</strong></h2> <p>To see if DiskShadow runs successfully independent of a back up job, you can run it from a command prompt on the guest.</p> <h2 data-id="issue"><strong>ISSUE</strong></h2> <p></p> <p>UVB uses the Windows Tool DiskShadow.exe to quiesce Windows machines (Windows Server 2008 and later).</p> <p>If you want to see if DiskShadow runs successfully independent of a back up job, you can run it from a command prompt on the guest. </p> <ol><li>Open a command prompt as administrator.</li> <li>Type <em>diskshadow</em> and press Enter. You should now be in a DiskShadow session.</li> <li>Enter <em>set context persistent</em> -- This makes the shadow copy persistent.</li> <li>Enter <em>set verbose on</em> -- This will increase the amount of feedback DiskShadow returns.</li> <li>Enter <em>begin backup</em> -- This will indicate that you want a full VSS snapshot. Logs will not be truncated unless the VSS snapshot is a full and copy is the default.</li> <li>Enter <em>add volume C:</em> -- Adds volumes to the shadow set. At least one volume must be added.</li> <li>Enter <em>create</em> -- This will run the shadow creation process.</li> <li>Enter <em>end backup</em> -- This command indicates a successful backup and will prompt the truncation of Exchange logs.
