<main> <article class="userContent"> <h2 data-id="summary"><strong>SUMMARY</strong></h2> <p>Unable to access CIFS shares on the Unitrends appliance from a Windows system</p> <h2 data-id="issue"><strong>ISSUE</strong></h2> <p></p> <h2 data-id="purpose">Purpose</h2> <p>To address a known cause for Windows systems to be unable to access the CIFS / Samba shares hosted on the Unitrends appliance</p> <h2 data-id="description">Description</h2> <p>To address a known cause for Windows systems to be unable to access the CIFS / Samba shares hosted on the Unitrends appliance</p> <p>You may test for this condition by running:<br> </p> <pre class="code codeBlock" spellcheck="false" tabindex="0"> C:\Windows\system32>net view unitrends_appliance_ip System error 1727 has occurred. The remote procedure call failed and did not execute.</pre> <h2 data-id="cause">Cause</h2> <p>Group Policy or Local Security Policy are modified and preventing the Windows system from accessing the Unitrends hosted CIFS / Samba shares</p> <h2 data-id="resolution">Resolution</h2> <p>1. Run <b><i>gpedit.msc</i></b> as administrator.</p> <p>2. Go to Local Computer Policy->Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policies->Security Options</p> <p>3. Ensure Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always) is disabled</p> <p>4.
