<main> <article class="userContent"> <h2 data-id="summary"><strong>SUMMARY</strong></h2> <p>This article explains how to correct the /etc/hosts file from the UI to correct the error presented when attempting to add a Protected Asset: "Hosts table already has an entry for “client name” when attempting to change a client’s IP or hostname."</p> <h2 data-id="issue"><strong>ISSUE</strong></h2> <p></p> <h4 data-id="error-hosts-table-already-has-an-entry-for-client-name-when-attempting-to-change-a-client-s-ip-or-hostname-detail-system-could-not-save-hostname-information-hosts-table-already-has-an-entry-for-x-x-x-x">Error: “Hosts table already has an entry for “<i>client name</i>” when attempting to change a client’s IP or hostname. <br><br>Detail: [System] Could not save hostname information: Hosts table already has an entry for "x.x.x.x" </h4> <p>It is not possible to change the IP of an existing client on the Clients menu. This is due to the fact that each time you add a client, an entry is created in the Unitrends system’s host table. When changing the IP or hostname and clicking <b>Setup</b>, the system interprets this as trying to add a duplicate entry in the host table.<br><br>For more information, you can review the Administrators Guide Web Edition under Managing protected Assets, subsection <b><a rel="nofollow" href="/home/leaving?allowTrusted=1&target=http%3A%2F%2Fguides.unitrends.com%2Fdocuments%2Frs-ueb-admin-guide%2F%23Satori%2FManaging_protected_assets.htm%3F%23To_edit_an_asset">To edit an agent-based asset</a>.</b></p> <h2 data-id="resolution"><strong>RESOLUTION</strong></h2> <p></p> <p>You must delete the relevant entry from the host table and re-Setup the client.<br><br>In the HTML5 /ui/ web administrative interface:<br>Navigate to <b>Configure > Appliances > Network > Edit Hosts File</b>, then select the incorrect entry and remove it.<br><br>You should then be able to add the system from the <b>Configure > Protected Assets </b>menu.<br> </p> <ol></ol><p> </p> <p> </p> </article> </main>
